February 9, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Sue Muzzin, PIER 39 at 415-705-5541 ‘Tulipmania’ Flourishes At PIER 39 February 20-28, 2010 SAN FRANCISCO, February 4, 2010 --- PIER 39 is beaming with tulips during its annual Tulipmania, February 20-28. This year’s event date has been pushed back a week to give the tulips an extended growth period due to January’s cold, dark and rainy weather. Tulipmania features many varieties of tulips and offers daily free outdoor guided tulip tours at 10 am. The tour begins in the PIER 39 Entrance Plaza and culminates at the new California Wine Bar for refreshments. Tour participants have a chance to win a pair of tickets to Cirque Du Soleil’s OVO. The species showcased this year feature tulips of every color including Apricot Beauties, Texas Flames, Purple Princess, Flaming Parrots, Swan Wings, Burgundy Lace and more. Accents of vegetables including lettuce, parsley, celery and red chard are part of the tulip display. The enlightening tulip tours are led by Denise Dirickson, PIER 39 director of environmental services, and her dedicated staff of gardeners. Tour participants can gather creative tips for their own gardens from PIER 39’s landscaping experts. If you are unable to make a tour, the tulip displays are in clear view for all to see any time. In addition to Tulipmania, PIER 39 is offering its Local Advantage Kids Eat and Play FREE deal with the purchase of an adult entrée or attraction ticket. The offer is good now through April 30, 2010.
