PIER 39 Ranked the Most Visited Attraction in San Francisco

SAN FRANCICO – PIER 39 has been ranked the most-visited attraction in San Francisco for the third straight time by San Francisco Travel Association’s 2017 Visitor Profile Study.  The study, conducted every three years, showed that 59.2% of domestic and international visitors visited PIER 39 during their stay in San Francisco. This percentage is up nearly 16% over the 2014 study.  More than 15.2 million people visit PIER 39 annually.

“To have the distinct honor of holding on to our #1 position as San Francisco’s most-visited attraction in these three consecutive surveys is extraordinary,” said Taylor Safford, President and CEO of PIER 39. “Our employees and all of our merchants take great pride in creating the PIER 39 experience here on the San Francisco Waterfront.  We are all about fun, food, views, shopping and of course, our star attraction, the California sea lions.”  Safford adds, “I feel like we just brought home the gold.”

San Francisco Travel Association contracted Destination Analysts, Inc. to conduct the 2017 Visitor Profile Study.  2,600 visitors were surveyed at different locations throughout the City about topics ranging from their activities and spending patterns to their most important motivators in choosing San Francisco as a destination.

The latest study showed that the three most-visited attractions in San Francisco are   PIER 39 (59.2%), the Golden Gate Bridge (57.9%), and Golden Gate Park (41.7%).  For more information on San Francisco Travel Association’s 2017 Visitor Profile Study, please contact Laurie Armstrong, San Francisco Travel Association Director of Media Relations for the U.S. and Canada, at larmstrong@sanfrancisco.travel.
