About Us

PIER 39 is the premiere entertainment destination in the heart of the San Francisco waterfront. Along with two levels of dining, entertainment, shopping and attractions both on The PIER and in San Francisco Bay, PIER 39 is home to the world-famous sea lions, who have been delighting guests daily at K-Dock since 1990.

The PIER is a gathering place for millions of guests annually.  With picture-perfect views of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, Alcatraz and the city skyline at almost every turn, it is easy to see why PIER 39 has recently been named the most visited attraction in San Francisco for the ninth consecutive year.  In September of 2018, PIER 39 was named a Legacy Business by the City of San Francisco. A visit to San Francisco starts at The PIER!

PIER 39 is committed to the preservation and conservation of the San Francisco Bay’s natural environment by encouraging, creating and supporting ecological education, responsible consumption and addressing environmental issues. PIER 39’s recycling and reuse efforts help divert 83% per month of the waste stream from local landfills. That’s around 1,650 tons of waste per year that is recycled or reused as compost. Along with cardboard, mixed paper, plastic, glass and aluminum, PIER 39 offers an organic/wet garbage composting program for its full-service restaurants, resulting in more than 785 tons of food waste recycled annually. PIER 39 also recycles 100 percent of its landscaping waste. A portion of this recycled waste is returned as fully composted material and incorporated back into our soil. PIER 39 has incorporated the use of LED technology extensively in our attractions, throughout our stores, and within architectural lighting around the PIER, contributing to reduced electrical use and resulting in significant savings and a reduced carbon footprint.

In recognition for its outstanding, wide-ranging recycling efforts, PIER 39 has received numerous awards, including the State of California’s Waste Reduction Program (WRAP) Award almost every year.
